New Hampshire Humanities and the Business and Industry Association, New Hampshire’s statewide chamber of commerce, launched a partnership this month to promote Humanities @ Work, an initiative to bring a variety of humanities-based programming to the workplace.

With Humanities @ Work, New Hampshire employers can bring innovative cultural programming into the workplace over lunch, or whenever is best for employers and employees. The programs range from stories of women and immigrants in New Hampshire’s mills, to living history and musical performances, to workshops on happiness in the workplace, or how to record family history. BIA members can pick from the many Humanities to Go offerings or request tailored programs to fit their needs. While a modest fee is required, a substantial discount is offered to BIA members.

“At a time when worker retention and talent recruitment is a leading concern for employers, cultural programming offers businesses another tool in fostering a vibrant workplace,” said BIA President Jim Roche. “Many employers recognize that providing these opportunities create more well-rounded, engaged employees who are more likely to stay and work in New Hampshire.”

“New Hampshire Humanities is proud to partner with the state’s business community to offer Humanities @ Work to employers who recognize that technical training is not the only strategy for attracting and retaining top quality workers,” said New Hampshire Humanities Board Chair, Ellen Scarponi of Consolidated Communications. “By making it easy and affordable for employers to offer humanities-based programs in the workplace, New Hampshire Humanities gives employers the ability to provide something that unites, inspires, and enlightens their employees, contributing to overall job satisfaction, creating a responsive, respectful workplace, and retaining the best workforce possible.”
