It's Your Turn: Community Project Grants

New Hampshire Humanities offers the only grant program in our state devoted to supporting the public humanities.

In 2019, we awarded grants totaling just over $62,000. These funds went to cultural and civic organizations, museums, colleges, libraries, historical societies, theaters, and other nonprofits around the state. Even a circus school received a grant! We believe that locally-designed, community-based projects demonstrate the power and potential of human creativity and thoughtfulness. When people intentionally gather together to explore ideas about topics and issues relevant to them, individuals, relationships, and communities thrive.

In the past year, we funded events and activities about everything from Native American stories and who should tell them to what motivates inventors, from the values that shape human relationships to the environment to the role of diplomacy in history and today’s world.

Major Grants

Major Grants of up to $10,000 are the heart of New Hampshire Humanities grant making, enabling all kinds of nonprofits and educational institutions to design and carry out multi-faceted projects. Proposals are accepted four times a year.

Mini Grants

Mini Grants of up to $1,000 support single events or short series and are available in as little as six weeks from submission deadline to first public event. Proposals accepted six times a year.

NOTE: DUNS Number and SAM.gov Registration Requirements

The Federal Government, including the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), requires applicant organizations to obtain a Unique Entity Identifier, currently a valid Dun and Bradstreet Data Universal Numbering System (D-U-N-S®) number. Organizations must also register with the System for Award Management (SAM) and continue to maintain active SAM registration with current information at all times during which you have an active federal award, subaward or an application under consideration.  Therefore, all applicant organizations must obtain a DUNS number ( https://fedgov.dnb.com/webform ) and register with SAM.gov ( https://www.sam.gov/SAM/ ) before New Hampshire Humanities can disperse any awarded NEH funds. Please note: There is no charge to obtain a D-U-N-S number or to register in SAM.
