Meet The Authors & Presenters

Elifgül Büyükoral was born and raised in Türkiye, where her close-knit family nurtured her love for books. Elifgül delved into the world of literature and language when she earned her BA in ESL. Fueled by her passion for storytelling, Elifgül moved to the United States to receive her MA in children’s literature from Simmons University. Elifgül writes stories that shine light on her heritage and Islamic faith, hoping to amplify diverse voices.

Evgenia Mantikas was born in Queens, raised on stories passed down for generations about villages on a faraway island in the Aegean. She is a middle-school teacher and holds a master’s degree in English literature from Fordham University and one in writing for children from Simmons University, where she met her coauthor. Evgenia’s work is a love letter to her culture and the village who raised her. When she isn't writing or teaching, Evgenia can be found talking about Percy Jackson, Taylor Swift, Avatar the Last Airbender, K-Dramas, and whales.
