Jo Radner’s Oral History Workshop

Meredith Public Library will host historian and storyteller Jo Radner’s popular day-long Oral History Workshop from 9:00 am until 4:30 pm on April 21. In 2018, the Town of Meredith is commemorating the 250th anniversary of its founding. The library plans to collect oral histories from some of the town’s oldest citizens to record memories of those who participated in the 200th anniversary. These histories will be recorded, transcribed and uploaded to the library’s digital history website to be revealed in the summer of 2018. This “how-to” workshop is free and open to others in the Lakes Region and beyond who wish to participate in similar projects.

Participants will learn why they should do an oral history project, interview strategies, recording techniques and what type of equipment will be needed.  They will then have the opportunity to perform practice interviews and learn what to do with the interviews once they are completed, such as: photographing the interviewee, transcribing and indexing the interview. Each participant will then have a chance to plan their own oral history project.
